Artisan Bread

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 tsp yeast
  • 1 1/2 Cup warm water
  • 2 tsp maple syrup or honey
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Optional add ins Cheese, bacon bits, jalapenos, etc.

Method
 

  1. 1. Stir together yeast, warm water, and maple syrup or honey. Let sit until foamy (activate yeast).

  2. 2. Add in dry ingredients and butter. Mix until just combined (its ok if it is lumpy, you just want all the flour to be wet).
    3 cups flour, 1 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tbsp butter
  3. 3. Let rest aprox 1 hour.
  4. 4. Once dough doubles in size, punch down and fold together dough by pulling it away from the sides of the bowl. Repeat for the next 3-4 hours (about 3-4 times). Optional add ins can be mixed in slowly now or just before shaping.
  5. Shape dough and place on parchment paper for 30 min for one final rise. I chose to shape mine in a boule.
  6. After dough has risen, dust with flour and score top. Lift into dutch oven.
  7. Bake 35 min with dutch oven lid on, and an additional 10 min with lid off to crisp the crust.
  8. Cool before slicing. Enjoy!
